Volunteers are the hands, feet, and heart behind Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation’s (MWR) mission. We simply couldn’t do what we do without their incredible dedication. Each month, we’re proud to spotlight one of the amazing people who helps bring our work to life.
This month, we’re thrilled to recognize Amanda Hendricks!
Amanda began volunteering with MWR in 2025, after previously volunteering with North Mississippi Mammal Rescue until its closure.
Since joining MWR, Amanda has assisted with wildlife rescue and transport and has volunteered at community events, including the North Mississippi Hummingbird Festival and MWRs Critter Christmas.
Amanda says she volunteers because:
“I’ve always loved animals—it’s just a part of who I am. Volunteering with wildlife felt like a natural extension of that. What started as a way to help has given me an entirely new appreciation for the important role each species plays. I’m constantly learning and, in turn, trying to educate others. Helping an injured or orphaned animal on its journey back to the wild is a privilege not a lot of people get to experience.”
🌿 Fun Fact:
Amanda shares her home with several pets—including a few reptiles! Before joining MWR, she admits she was actually a little scared of birds. Thanks to her volunteer experience, she’s gained a whole new appreciation for our feathered friends.
