MWR Minute – September 2026

MWR’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament Raises Over $13,000 for Wildlife

Despite an unseasonably warm September day, MWR’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Wedgewood Golf Club was our biggest and most successful yet! Seventeen teams joined us for a great day of golf, food, prizes, and fellowship—all while raising more than $13,000 for Mississippi’s native wildlife.

A special thank you goes to our Eagle Sponsor, Memphis Stone & Gravel, A Granite Company, and our Raptor Sponsors: Entergy Mississippi, Donnie Chambliss – DC Team at Crye-Leike Realtors, Drake Waterfowl, and Tim Hogan’s Carpet & Floors of Southaven. We are also incredibly grateful to the many local businesses and individuals who donated prizes, auction items, food, and additional sponsorships.

A huge shoutout goes to MWR Board Member Donnie Chambliss and volunteer Dana Young Alvarez for their tireless work organizing the tournament, as well as all of our volunteers, board members, and staff who helped make the day run smoothly.

While the tournament was filled with friendly competition, great food, camaraderie, and plenty of prizes, its impact extends far beyond the golf course.

As a donor-funded nonprofit, events like the MWR Golf Tournament are critical to our work. The more than $13,000 raised will help provide food, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and specialized care for injured and orphaned native wildlife. It also supports MWR’s environmental education programs and our ongoing conservation efforts to provide natural spaces and resources for our local community.

To every golfer, sponsor, prize donor, volunteer, board member, and supporter who played a part in this year’s tournament, thank you for making our 3rd Annual Golf Tournament our best yet.

We are incredibly grateful for a community that continues to show up for Mississippi’s native wildlife—and we’re already looking forward to seeing everyone back on the course next year!

🏥 Wildlife Hospital – By the Numbers

This month we admitted more than 50 new patients, representing 20 bird and 1 reptile species.

Check out these patient highlights from September:

If you come across a wild bird or reptile in distress, please do not attempt to care for it yourself. Improper handling or feeding can do more harm than good and may violate federal or state wildlife laws. Please reach out to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
