Volunteers are the hands, feet, and heart behind Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation’s (MWR) mission. We simply couldn’t do what we do without their incredible dedication. Each month, we’re proud to spotlight one of the amazing people who help bring our work to life.
This month, we’re thrilled to recognize Ava Hendricks
Ava began volunteering with MWR in the summer of 2025 and has quickly become a valuable member of our team. She volunteers both at the Wildlife Hospital and at Wildlife Director Stephanie Hogan’s home, where she helps feed countless baby birds, cares for injured turtles, and assists with the daily care of our wildlife ambassadors. Ava has also participated in wildlife rescues and transports, helping injured and orphaned animals get the care they need.
In addition to her work with wildlife patients, she has helped at community outreach events and our annual Critter Christmas.
When asked why she volunteers, Ava shared that wildlife have always held a special place in her heart. She wanted an opportunity to make a hands-on difference while learning more about wildlife care and rehabilitation. Through her experiences with MWR, Ava has discovered a passion that is shaping her future and inspiring her to pursue a career in Wildlife Veterinary Medicine.
🌿 Fun Fact: Ava is a horror movie fanatic and loves anything scary!
Ava’s enthusiasm, compassion, and eagerness to learn make her a wonderful advocate for native wildlife and an important part of the MWR family.
