MWR Volunteer Spotlight: Julie Perry

Volunteers are the hands, feet, and heart behind Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation’s (MWR) mission. We simply couldn’t do what we do without their incredible dedication. Each month, we’re proud to spotlight one of the amazing people who help bring our work to life.

This month, we’re thrilled to recognize Julie Perry.

Julie first connected with MWR in 2020 while helping with a few snake education programs and officially became a dedicated volunteer in 2025 after hearing about the new native garden project.

She says, “Nature is a big part of my life and I love native plants, so this was the perfect place for me to be in helping with the garden. It’s my therapy and I love seeing the wildlife it brings. The people of MWR share the same passion in helping animals and they are also nature lovers, so it’s such an awesome team to be a part of.”

Through her work in the native garden, Julie helps create habitat that benefits local wildlife while also inspiring others to appreciate the importance of native plants and healthy ecosystems.

🌿 Fun Fact:
Julie shares, “I was terrified of snakes my whole life until I turned 35. One day while fishing, I saw a bunch of them and suddenly became fascinated. Now I’m completely obsessed with snakes and love them so much — especially venomous species!”

🌿 Thank you, Julie, for your dedication, compassion, and the positive impact you make for wildlife and the MWR community every day.
